
Climate Change Litigation

Climate change litigation is a growing global phenomenon, often driven by civil society organizations seeking to hold states and corporations accountable for their role in climate change or to obtain compensation for its effects.
This course provides an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective on the role of law in the current climate crisis, focusing on developments in both Europe and Latin America. Topics include:
- Environmental Courts and regulatory frameworks such as Climate Change Laws
- Rights of Nature and the ecocentric legal approach
- International and private litigation, with an emphasis on the German legal system
- Landmark court rulings that mandate more ambitious climate policies
- Latin American perspectives, including Water Law and environmental civil liability
