
Courses: English for academic purposes B2
This academic English course is designed to integrate and develop the skills of listening, reading, speaking, and writing in a balanced way, along with key lexical and grammatical content for effective communication in academic contexts. Throughout the course, participants will acquire fundamental competencies that will enable them to perform more confidently in their specific fields of study, enhancing both their performance and comprehension in English-speaking academic environments.
This course is intended for applicants and students of undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs (such as master’s degrees, diplomas, etc.) from any university who have an intermediate level of English (B1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages – CEFR) and wish to reach an upper-intermediate level (B2). It is ideal for those seeking to strengthen their communication skills in English and improve their performance in academic settings.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of achievement that certifies they have reached the competencies corresponding to the upper-intermediate level (B2), in accordance with the standards of the CEFR.
The course will be taught by Genoveva Medel, an English teacher with a degree in Education and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. She currently teaches in the English as a Foreign Language Program as well as in the Translation-Interpretation and English Teaching degree programs at the same university. Additionally, she conducts research in the area of reading comprehension in English as a second language.
COURSE STRUCTURE – LEVEL B2
- Duration: July 10 to August 12, 2025
- Modality: Online (synchronous)
- Class schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The course includes 10 synchronous sessions of 2 hours each (20 hours total), plus 10 self-study sessions on a virtual platform (10 hours).
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, each student will receive a certificate of participation.
COURSE COSTS
- 180,000 CLP for the general public
- 130,000 CLP for students and alumni of short courses in Ongoing Education at HCLA
- 100,000 CLP for current or alumni students of HCLA Master’s and Diplomas
A minimum number of participants is required to conduct the course.
