Third Lecture of the II Cycle of Conferences on International Law HCLA HOSTS “NEW PERSPECTIVES ON HUMANITARIAN LAW”

With the Netherlands as a special guest, the Heidelberg Center for Latin America (HCLA) welcomed Professor Larissa van den Herik, an academic in International Law from Leiden University (Netherlands), and lawyer Catalina Fernández, Head of the Universal Human Rights System Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and professor of Public International Law at the University of Chile, on Tuesday, August 20. The lecture was moderated by Professor Paula Cortés, a graduate of the Master’s in International Law from Heidelberg University in collaboration with the University of Chile, and attracted more than fifty attendees.

The hybrid event focused on exploring the challenges posed by the current conflict in Ukraine from the perspectives of International Law and International Humanitarian Law. The discussion featured the presence of the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Carmen Gonsalves, the judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and co-director of the LL.M. program, María Teresa Infante, and the Director of International Relations at the Faculty of Law of the University of Chile, Professor Aude Argouse.

The Master’s (LL.M.) in International Law was established at the Heidelberg Center for Latin America in 2004 and is accredited for 8 years by the National Accreditation Commission until 2030. To date, 345 students from over thirty countries have graduated from this postgraduate program.
