Deutsch als Fremdsprache

The Heidelberg Center offers German language courses for students, academics, and anyone interested in learning German. Classes are tailored to participants’ needs and are particularly designed to prepare postgraduate students for their stays in Germany.

Courses are available in extensive, semi-intensive, or intensive formats, are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and comprise 48 academic hours. A complete language level can be completed in approximately 9 months in the extensive format or 3 months in the intensive format.

Levels

• A1 – Beginner: Understanding and use of simple everyday expressions. Participants learn to introduce themselves, provide personal information, and communicate in basic situations.
• A2 – Elementary: Simple communication on everyday topics such as family, shopping, housing, and work. Upon completion, participants can take the Start Deutsch 2 examination.
• B1 – Intermediate: Participants can communicate while traveling and in common everyday situations, understand texts and conversations on familiar topics, and express experiences and opinions. Upon completion, participants can take the Zertifikat Deutsch examination.
• B2 – Upper Intermediate: Greater fluency and spontaneity in conversation and discussion, as well as the ability to understand texts, news, and complex content. Upon completion, participants can take the TestDaF examination.
• C1 – Advanced: Fluent and flexible command of German in academic, social, and professional contexts, with the ability to understand and produce complex texts. Upon completion, participants can take the TestDaF examination.
